相較同樣尋覓總教練的洛杉磯湖人不疾不徐，明尼蘇達灰狼似乎想早點解決問題，總管Flip Saunders決定「下海」重作馮婦，親自擔任灰狼總教練。

灰狼原總教練Rick Adelman為了照顧妻子，早有意退休，因此Saunders整季都在尋找接替人選，卻始終沒有中意對象。

根據《ESPN》消息，眾多候選人當中，Dave Joerger曾是最接近這份工作的一位，但他最後接受曼菲斯灰熊的續留。

Saunders將找回前臣Chauncey Billups擔任助理教練，本季重返老東家底特律活塞的Billups過去在灰狼、活塞都曾接受他的指導。

Saunders在1995年至2005年擔任灰狼主帥，隨後轉戰活塞、華盛頓巫師，生涯638勝526敗。
